The City Council of Torre-Pacheco requires the Ministry of Education a solution to the delay of the works of replacing the cover of the Meroņos school, since the center will not be ready for the start of the school year next Friday September 7.
This school, which is currently part of the Entretierras Rural Grouped School and which began operating in 1934, had the same roof since its construction, which had serious structural problems that had to be corrected by the Regional Government some time ago.
In fact, in the absence of a response from the competent body, the Torre-Pacheco City Council carried out a structural reinforcement work for the most affected party in December 2016 to allow classes to continue within the building.
However, despite the insistence of the local government, as well as its appearance in the regional budgets for several years, the work planned for last summer never came to fruition.
According to Conchi Martinez, Councilor for Education, "after the wait and thanks to the insistence of the entire educational community, the works began this summer in mid-August with few possibilities to meet the deadlines and allow the start of the school year with all guarantees for minors. "
Less than a week before the start of the classes the works continue unfinished, explained the Councilor, who has also pointed out that "the Ministry should propose an alternative to families so that their children can begin the school period and they can enjoy his school without taking risks, thus guaranteeing his right to education. "
