Torre Pacheco renews the recognition of UNICEF's "Child Friendly City" (30/10/2018)

The City Council of Torre Pacheco maintains the "Ciudad Amiga de la Infancia" Seal awarded by the UNICEF Spanish Committee through the Permanent Secretariat of the Child Friendly Cities Program.

This Secretariat is made up of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, the University Institute of "Needs and Rights of Children and Adolescents" -IUNDIA- and UNICEF Spanish Committee.

Previously, on October 3, a technical delegation of UNICEF visited our municipality with the objective of evaluating and contrasting on the ground the documentation submitted by the candidacy of Torre Pacheco, thus ensuring compliance with the requirements established by the rules of the Call. .

During this visit, this delegation was able to meet with various actors involved with children and youth: councilors and municipal technicians of Family, Youth, Education, Culture, Sports, Citizen Participation;

AMPAs and directors of educational centers;

as well as with the children of the Municipal Council of Childhood and Adolescence.

According to the evaluation carried out by the Permanent Secretariat of the Program, this year the Recognition will be granted to 114 local governments throughout Spain and will renew the Recognition to 80 administrations, among which is Torre Pacheco, as the first local entity that renews in the Region of Murcia, having spent four years since obtaining this recognition and having complied with all the requirements established by the Program.

Along with Torre Pacheco, are Child Friendly Cities in the Region, another 10 municipalities: Sewer, Bullas, Calasparra, Campos del Río, Cartagena, Cieza, Lorquí, Murcia, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar.

All these municipalities have in common the commitment of their governments to the promotion of the integral development of children and adolescents, which is evident in that each of them has designed a Local Child Plan in order to contribute to the five Framework objectives of the initiative:

1. Each child is valued, respected and treated fairly within their communities;

2. The voices, needs and priorities of each child are heard and considered in the regulations and public policies, in the budgets and in all the decisions that affect them;

3. All children have access to quality essential services;

4. All children live in safe and clean environments;

5. All children have the opportunity to enjoy family life, play and leisure.

The Friendly Cities for Children Program, which the UNICEF Spanish Committee has been leading since 2002, seeks to contribute to improving the living conditions of children and adolescents through the promotion and implementation of municipal policies that guarantee their integral development with a of rights in the framework of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
