The Community spends more than 1.1 million euros for the new Municipal Archives of Torre Pacheco (23/06/2010)

The general director of Books, Archives and Libraries, Francisco Giménez, Torre Pacheco visited today in the reconstruction Fontes House will be converted into a new socio-cultural space that will house the City Museum and the Municipal Archives.

He was accompanied by the mayor, Daniel García Madrid, and the Councillor for Education, Culture and Sports, Araceli Martinez.

The action involves a total investment of 2.5 billion euros, of which 682,530 will be financed by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, € 450,000 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the remainder by the city of Torre Pacheco.

The works are part of the program for the rehabilitation of buildings for public use, where it seeks to recover the historical-cultural heritage of the towns in the region, working in those buildings considered to be of architectural value.

The reconstruction of the building, whose structure is already up, corresponding to a former residence of the Marquis de Torre Pacheco built in the late nineteenth century, which will be converted into a socio-cultural area that will retrieve the image of the old building in the urban environment integrating of the population.

The new socio-cultural space will have a total area of 3,245 meters squared, of which 2,120 and 1,125 correspond to the building exteriors.

The building, three floors, ground floor will house the reception area which gives access to three of the museum exhibition areas, two inside and a large outdoor area.

The Historical Archives located in this plant will have a large area for storage of documents, and work and consultation rooms.

We also have a multipurpose conference room, cafeteria and a large garden for outdoor activities.

The first and second floor exhibition halls will have to serve on the museum display.

Appearance of archaeological remains

During construction of the Museum and Historical Archive of Torre Pacheco appeared archaeological remains of several stages, materials and construction debris from the second century BC to the nineteenth century with the construction of the manor of Los Fontes.

Among the remains found, features a water storage pond with internal measures 2.50 meters wide, 4.50 meters long and 2.12 meters deep.

The raft, which will be integrated into the construction site of the Museum, is filled with Roman mural paintings that will be extracted and restored shortly for future musealization in the building.

Also appears in a Republican Roman defensive ditch of a Roman military camp and possible post holes associated with it.

With regard to the phase of the Islamic era, is a field of storage silos and materials highlighting one of the late tenth and early eleventh, which is due to a possible concealment, which stand for the quantity and quality irons.

A sword, two adzes, a horse can bite and a complex wooden artifact, grids and rings highlighted in an outfit consisting of jars, vials, Glazed bowl and basins in good condition.

Excavated materials from the excavation are in an impound lot pending the completion of works in the Museum and Historical Archive for exhibition.
