Held in Torre-Pacheco technical conference on viruses in vegetables (17/12/2013)

This morning was held at the Arts Center of Torre-Pacheco essences a technical seminar on current problems and new risks of virus diseases in vegetables.

This day was opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Cerdá, Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Daniel García and the head area Cajamar, Francisca Saura.

The main objective of this technical session has been transmitting information on what are the most problematic viruses that can affect plantations Solanaceae (tomato and pepper, mainly) and cucurbits (melon, watermelon, zucchini, cucumbers and pumpkins) in the Spanish southeast, as well as new risks that farmers face and how they can cope with from the point of view of research and field measurements.

This conference is aimed at technicians, both official and private, and farmers involved in the production of cucurbits, tomato, pepper and other vegetable crops.

This day is celebrated because in recent months the virus has entered Delhi in the Campo de Cartagena, with serious consequences on the plantations of zucchini and other cucurbits, leaving great uncertainty about what will happen with the new campaign melon and other potentially sensitive crops.

The day began with the presentation of Ana Cano García Plant Health Service of Murcia, who spoke of the major viruses detected in the southeastern Spanish horticultural crops and their impact in recent seasons.

Miguel Aranda continued CEBAS-CSIC in Murcia dominating virus in cucurbits in the southeast Spanish: old friends and new threats.

Meanwhile, Antonio brought Moserrat IMIDA measures for the prevention and control of viral diseases transmitted by insects.

Juan Carlos Gázquez Center "The Palmerillas" Cajamar Foundation commented on the selection criteria and effectiveness of anti-insect mesh.

Alfredo Lacasa Plasencia commented IMIDA measures for the prevention and control of viral transmission to other systems.

Conclusion was held a round table on the establishment of mandatory measures, which has been chaired by the head of the Plant Protection Service, José González Zapater.
