The Project has been selected among hundreds of proposals from different municipalities in Spain, and will be implemented between 2018-2023.
The Government Team has valued the news in a "very positive" way, since it supposes "an endorsement to the sustainable and integrated city model and to the city project launched by the local government."
The project starts from a very detailed analysis of the socio-economic and demographic situation of Torre Pacheco, and is marked by an important integrating and social character.
The challenges of the project are to eliminate the radicalism in Torre Pacheco, to solve the lack of identity and unity that the municipality suffers, to promote a model of the city to live, that is, healthier, sustainable and supportive, thinking about citizenship, promoting gender equality, the diversification of the economic model and the promotion of sustainable agriculture.
Within the framework of the project, actions will be carried out on urban regeneration aimed at social cohesion, with works in neighborhoods and rehabilitation projects for municipal buildings, modernization of the Administration and improvement of access to municipal services through ICT, implementation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, promotion of the cultural heritage, strengthening the identity of the municipality, actions in terms of energy saving and sustainability, as well as projects of equality and empowerment of women, as a way to fight against fundamentalism, radicalism and inequality .
In the coming weeks, the start-up of the project will begin.
The municipal services are already working on specifying specific measures, as well as scheduling the start-up of the new sustainable and integrated city project.
