The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León accompanied by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Ángel del Amor and the Secretary General of Agriculture, María Dolores Valcárcel, as well as the Councilor for Agriculture, Alberto Galindo and the Town Councilor of Celebrations, Yolanda Castaño, opened the Fiestas del Melón, last Friday, June 15.
Also attended by members of the Municipal Corporation and parents among other authorities.
The Fiestas del Melón as well as promoting a product hallmark of the municipality, which combines tradition and economy, is the emblem of Torre Pacheco, of its people, a product that identifies us in our region, and some festivals that celebrated its first edition in the year 1969.
Festivities that this year have had many novelties, highlighting the location of stands throughout the weekend, where neighbors and commissions of parties in the towns of El Jimenado, Santa Rosalia, Roldán and Meroños, along with the commission of Torre Pacheco, They have offered tapas and drinks to visitors, for one euro for the benefit of their Patron Saint Festivities.
The youngest have returned to be the protagonists in many of the activities that have filled the squares of Torre Pacheco, water festivals, storytelling of "Don Melonico", narrated by Mari Carmen Pérez, cooking workshop with Chef María Dolores Baró, with great success like previous editions.
Next year the Melon Festival poster will be the winner of the photography competition "Melon in all its senses", the work of Lorena Rioja, who won the prize consisting of 800 euros.
The music had its place on Friday night with Filiu and on Saturday with the performance of Falete, with an absolute full and overwhelming success, it was undoubtedly the event that caused the most excitement, a great performance of what is undoubtedly one of the best voices of the Spanish copla, at this moment.
On Sunday the 17th the Melon Festivities culminated with the tractor driving test with 2-axle trailer.
A total of 15 participants showed their skills in the handling of this vehicle.
An intense weekend, with a varied program of activities for all audiences, which once again made neighbors and visitors enjoy one more year, without a doubt, a very successful Fiesta del Melón in the municipality and region.
