Miguel López-Morell: "We want the population to know this protected place that has a high ecological, landscape, geomorphological and paleontological interest"
The Committee on Industry, Labor, Trade and Tourism of the Regional Assembly has unanimously approved an initiative of Citizens, in which orange training requests that they implement the necessary, economically sustainable measures for the enhancement of space of the Cabezo Gordo in Torre Pacheco.
Miguel Ángel López-Morell, deputy of Citizens, has shown his satisfaction "because it is a protected natural space declared Site of Community Interest and that, therefore, is within the Natura 2000 Network. The site, which houses the site archaeological site of the Sima de las Palomas, presents a high ecological, landscape, geomorphological and paleontological interest;
however, it is unknown to citizens, even for part of the local population. "
In this sense, the deputy of Cs believes that its value for the enjoyment of visitors will generate an important point of ecological and cultural tourism that, in turn, will lead to the creation of jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs.
"This requires the collaboration and involvement of the affected administrations, both local and regional, which must work together with the owners of Cabezo Gordo for the construction of public-private facilities for the promotion of ecotourism based on permaculture", Lopez-Morell has indicated.
The deputy of the orange training added that this would require the installation of minimum services that were sustainable over time, such as signs, a wooden bar-house integrated into the environment and a youth hostel;
and the performance of promotional events in order to offer a series of recreational activities and environmental education throughout the year, which would add value to the space, and a distinction and greater tourist attraction to the municipality of Torre Pacheco.
Among the many possibilities offered by the Cabezo Gordo environment, López-Morell has alluded to the possibility of promoting joint information and environmental interpretation actions, in English and Spanish, on subjects such as paleontology, botany or speleology;
the recovery of former barracks, now in ruins, to create and enhance the joint use of public and private facilities;
or the promotion of ecotourism development.
"It is important that the measures adopted for the valorization of the Cabezo Gordo be agreed upon within the public-private partnership and that they be economically sustainable", concluded López-Morell.
