The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, and the General Secretary of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Mª Dolores Valcárcel, together with the Managing Director of the Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Region of Murcia, ESAMUR, and the councilman of Agriculture and Environment, Alberto Galindo, visited the municipal wastewater treatment plant today, which reuses one hundred percent of the reclaimed water and destines 1,241,931 m3 for irrigation, there being only one dealer that is the Community of Irrigators of the Campo de Cartagena.
The TPH WWTP bases its treatment on a prolonged aeration with reactors in a carousel-like configuration. Additionally, it has a tertiary treatment with UV disinfection, directly capturing the irrigation community for irrigation.
As a special feature, and like any hydraulic infrastructure, it has protection systems against large flows that are collected in rainwater through the sewerage network.
Currently, work is being done to equip the Torre Pacheco plant with a large environmental tank that will even allow it to collect the high flow rates that reach the plant with heavy rains and that can not be treated in it.
Although these relief flows carry a low polluting load due to their dilution, this action will avoid these overflows and take advantage of that water for irrigation once treated in the treatment plant.
