A team of researchers today begins work that will focus on a level lower than that left in the open skeletons articulated Neanderthal man located in the gap during the 2010 campaign, which are added to a large number of documented human remains findings in the area since the discovery of the chasm in 1991.
The School of Field has offered during the last years a unique opportunity for the international meeting of young people and collaborators, enthusiastic in the search of the roots of Neanderthal Man in the contexts of the practical scientific work in the Sima de las Palomas Gordo , important site of the Neanderthal Man and his Mousterian Paleolithic industry about 50,000 years ago.
This site occupies a prominent place on the map of human evolution in Europe, known worldwide when talking about Neanderthal, as it is the only one in the peninsula where articulated remains of this hominid have been found.
The Campaign that has begun today, will last until August 10, with a total of 18 researchers and being in front as directors: the professor emeritus Dr. Michael Walker, the professor Dr. Maria Haber, and the archaeologist Mr. Mariano López.
The work involves a group from the University of Murcia and the Mupanquat Association, as well as volunteers from countries such as the United States, Australia, United Kingdom or Denmark, who work voluntarily during these three weeks.
As every year, people interested in visiting the Sima, and know the work of archaeologists, may do so next Sunday July 29, in the Open Day, organized by the Office of Tourism.
