The City Council is putting out to tender for the first time a public tender for the collection, transfer, maintenance and shelter of companion animals, as well as control of the feline colonies of the municipality.

With a value of more than € 42,000 per year, the contract lasts two years and aims to address the problem of abandonment and animal welfare, in a municipality with a large area in which, despite the awareness campaigns and the Increasing sensitivity of our society with this type of facts, the scourge of mistreatment and animal abandonment is still very present, as we see through social networks and the demands that neighbors and animal protection associations make us reach.

The contract includes the establishment of a collection system for abandoned or lost animals 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and obliges the winning company to carry out a veterinary follow-up from the first moment the animal is picked up, to ensure your well-being.

The company must ensure zero slaughter and only in cases of veterinary emergency may be applied palliative measures, following a veterinary report and with the approval of the City Council.

The new contract also regulates the adoption of animals from the new company.

This will have to develop a broad program to promote adoption and collaborate with associations and protectors to conduct awareness campaigns on adoption, responsible tenure, sterilization, through Radio Torre Pacheco and the schools of the municipality.

In the cat field, the CES model is implemented (Control, Sterilization and Release).

The company will have to keep track of the feline colonies with the CES model, also claimed by animal welfare associations as the most beneficial to ensure animal protection.

The Councilor for Finance and Communication, Carlos López, stressed "the commitment of the government team for animal welfare," and confirmed that "legal services are also preparing a new ordinance adapted to the new animal protection law, which includes new measures to protect pets and animals and a new sanctions regime with the aim of ending the scourge of animal abuse.
