Today, August 16, the prehistoric children's workshops "Pequeñ @ s Neandertales" have finished.
This summer, 120 children have done this activity, which they have enjoyed learning about the Neanderthals that lived in the Sima de las Palomas more than 50,000 years ago.
For the little troglodytes, this workshop means an experience that, in addition, gives them knowledge about the first settlers of Torre Pacheco.
In this event you can create your own "pica-piedra" costume, make rock art with natural pigments, and dig in the "Cajón del Arqueólogo", finding numerous treasures under the sand.
This last activity has become the favorite of the smallest, because it arouses in them great curiosity through the artifacts of the past found as they are: bones, ceramics, coins, precious stones, etc.
They also enjoy a guided tour in the exhibition "El Cabezo Gordo: La Montaña Neandertal", where they review the most important findings that have been obtained in the Sima de las Palomas, and learn the characteristics of Neanderthal Man.
Throughout the workshop the children have been accompanied by a Neanderthal actor called "Homo Momo", who recounts his cave experiences and interacts with them in the storytelling that his sister Paloma has as protagonist.
The Councilor for Tourism and Local Development, Rosalía Rosique, has pointed out that "it is about offering an attractive activity to children where they learn in a fun way and transmit the importance of La Sima de las Palomas as a paleontological heritage, located in El Cabezo Gordo from Torre Pacheco. "
According to Rosique, "from the Department of Tourism we thank all the participants for their great interest, many children from Torre Pacheco and its districts have attended, but also from nearby municipalities and beach areas, taking advantage of the proximity.
This third edition of the workshops "Pequeñ @ s Neandertales" has been a great satisfaction for us for the good development of the activity and the acceptance it has had, and we are already preparing for next year. Thank you very much!
