The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, was commissioned to begin on Saturday September 15, the commemoration of the "Day of the Municipality", this year a tribute to Joaquín Ferrándiz, Torre Pacheco Chronicler, in the centenary of your birth.
Members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as civil and military authorities, and of course, neighbors and relatives attended this moving event.
In his speech, the Mayor recalled that, on September 17, 1836 the Villa de Torre Pacheco was constituted as its own City Council by segregation of the council of Murcia, definitively after some initial attempts in 1813 and 1820, forming a territory that was framed in the limits of the primitive parish, founded in 1603 by Deán Luis Pacheco and under the invocation of the Virgin of the Rosary, creating a municipal term with 48 houses in the town and 1200 distributed in an extensive field of 200 km2, formed by eleven districts and councils and a first census of 5,000 inhabitants;
and it would take up to 30 years for the Torre Pacheco City Council to have a building destined for Town Hall.
Presentation of the publication "150 Years of Stories, Anniversary of the Town Hall Square", the screening of a video summary of the events held in 2017 on the occasion of the Day of the Municipality;
as well as, a social gathering on the figure of Joaquín Ferrándiz and the inauguration of a photographic and documentary exhibition "Chronicle of a life", which covers the life of the Chronicler through family photographs and documents of the Municipal Archive, were the events held for commemorate the Day of the Municipality of Torre Pacheco, last September 15 at the Town Hall of the town.
