The Autonomous Community, through the Murcia Institute of Social Action IMAS, this year funded with 3,338,665 euros a total of 338 places for the promotion of the autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities in sheltered housing and specialized services for the promotion of autonomy (Sepad and Cepad).
These places are distributed in eleven centers throughout the Region.
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the president of the Association of Parents of Physically and Sensitively Handicapped (Prometeo) Disabilities, Ascensión Méndez, today welcomed the first users of the residence-residence of this association, located in Torre Pacheco, where the IMAS has hired 10 new places, with an investment of 53,708 euros.
Violante Tomás highlighted that "the Region is a pioneer in the implementation of services for the improvement of autonomy for people with intellectual disabilities, with the aim of promoting equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility".
In addition, the counselor added that "with actions such as sheltered housing is intended that its users have the highest level of independence possible and that they can participate in their environment as each one chooses, with the rights and obligations that correspond to them as citizens, facilitating the necessary support. "
The Ministry subsidizes with about 500,000 euros to the Prometheus association for the care of 110 people in the day center and to offer early attention to minors.
In addition, the Prometeo association received a subsidy of 19,311 euros in 2017 from the tax allowance of 0.7 percent of the Personal Income Tax with which a minibus was purchased for the transport of its users.
