Last Saturday the activity "Café Solidario Azabache" was held for the first time and with a great reception by the residents of the municipality, a solidarity event, to benefit the Local Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, a day that gathered hundreds of people, throughout the afternoon, with live piano music, with the performance of musicians from the Musical Agrupación Virgen del Pasico and the Musical Union of Torre Pacheco, as well as coffee, sweets, and children's workshops.
"More than € 1,000 raised that will go to research, of which € 720 was the Café Solidario, € 300 from the sale of details of the AECC, and still have to add the donations made by the attendees," as has informed, Encarna Nieto, president of the Local Board of the AECC in Torre Pacheco, transmitting his satisfaction for the great participation and the success of the event.
On February 4, 2000 was established as World Cancer Day, with the aim of raising awareness and mobilize society to advance in the prevention and control of this disease.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Spain.
One in three men and one in four women will be diagnosed with cancer throughout their lives;
and approximately 40% of cancers could be avoided.
