The Councilor for Finance, Carlos López, has participated in the Ministry of Finance in the "Innovative Urban Indicators and Actions", organized by the European Commission, for municipalities that have been selected to participate in programs of the European Regional Development Fund ( FEDER).
The Integrated Urban Sustainable Development Strategy of the City Council, "Torre Pacheco, Land of Contrasts", has been selected by the European Union and will be one of those receiving funds, a total of 2.4 million €, to which is added the minimum contribution of 600,000 euros from the City Council for urban interventions, modernization and sustainability in the neighborhoods of San Juan and San Antonio de Torre Pacheco, with the aim of putting these neighborhoods back in value and cohesion with the rest of the neighborhoods.
The objectives of the workshops, developed in workshop-tertulia format, are to know the keys to design innovative urban operations, to promote transferability within the framework of other European urban programs that favor the combination of funds and the expansion of networks such as URBACT, UIA ( Innovative Urban Actions) or IUC (International Urban Cooperation), and also understand the potential of EDUSI as something more than an ERDF grant.
In the Days, different Spanish cities have exhibited their innovative and successful projects, such as Malaga, Murcia, Gijón or the capital of Spain, Madrid.
The Councilor for the Treasury has valued very positively the sessions, which have also served to establish contact and networks with the rest of the beneficiary municipalities of these programs.
"Land of Contrasts, the integrated sustainable urban development strategy of Torre Pacheco, is already a paradigm shift in the city model we want, although we are still in the preliminary phase, preparing documentation and carrying out the planning tasks required by the EU , this project should serve as the spearhead of the urban transformation that our municipality needs. "
According to López, "the strategy and actions contained in our project are based on an analysis of the socioeconomic situation of these neighborhoods, and we have also set indicators that will later allow us to know the performance of these actions. strategic planning, and also that investments and urban planning can have a social basis, and not speculative as we lived not many years ago in our municipality.
