The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, accompanied by the councilman of Tourism and Culture, Raul Lledó and Mariano Lopez co-director of the Sima de Las Palomas, as well as members of the Municipal Corporation and Tourism techniques, have wanted to invite Torre residents Pacheco and visitors to enjoy and know first-hand, the environmental richness of our town.
There are very few occasions in which the Sima de las Palomas opens its doors to show all its wealth from the hand of the archaeologists who work during the summer in the official Excavations Campaign of the Field School "Sima de las Palomas de Cabezo Gordo "of the Prehistory and Palaeoanthropology of the Quaternary of the Region of Murcia, which this summer in its XXVIII Edition takes place from July 19 to August 9.
Next Sunday, July 28 and throughout the morning those who approach the Cabezo Gordo can visit the Cueva del Agua, where you can see a large mining gallery, and a natural lake where water is filtered in the interior of the mountain;
You can also enter the Sima de las Palomas, where you go back more than 50,000 years, to discover our origins and learn more about Homo Neanderthalensis;
In addition, during the visit to the Interpretation Center, in the Cave of the Foot of the Giant, videos will be projected explaining the different theories about the disappearance of Homo Neandethalensis and if it really became extinct.
In addition, photography enthusiasts can participate in the photo contest, having as a prize to dig a day in La Sima de las Palomas, with the archaeologists.
Next Sunday, July 28 is the Open Doors Day "Sima de las Palomas", from 8.30 to 14.00 hours, an activity whose cost is € 3, which needs prior registration.
