Today, July 16, Los Olmos celebrate the day of their Patron, the Virgen del Carmen and the end of the Fiestas, with the traditional procession with the image of the Patron through the streets of the neighborhood.
A program of Festivities that also, of the usual acts and activities, last Sunday counted on the Blessing of the New Hermitage of Our Lady of Carmen de los Olmos.
The Eucharist was presided by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena the Hon.
and Rvdmo.
Mons. D. Sebastián Chico, in which also participated the Episcopal Vicar of the Diocese and Parish Priest of Torre Pacheco, David Martínez.
The new Hermitage, the result of a contest of architectural ideas, in which the best solution for the use and location was chosen;
a Hermitage very demanded by the neighbors, since the building where the church was located was more than 40 years old and needed to be reformed or the construction of a new building, being this the best solution.
The Shrine Virgen del Carmen, innovative construction, architect Felipe García, has new materials and adapted to new technologies, and with the same dimensions as the previous Hermitage, about 220 square meters, approximately, for a capacity of about 145 people.
The building is composed of three main volumes, a tower with 13 meters high, which houses a warehouse, the main nave that is the element where the Eucharist is celebrated, and the sacristy, highlighting the continuity of these three elements in the totality of the project, being part of the own project of the Hermitage the plaza of Los Olmos.
