The older people of Torre Pacheco, like the rest of the population, since the state of alarm was declared on the occasion of the Covid-19 on March 14, have been showing great respect for the rules, complying with the maximum of confinement, leaving only and if necessary to make the purchase in the supermarket or go to the pharmacy.The Centers for the Elderly of the municipality have been closed since Saturday, March 13, which is why the Department of Equality, Employment and Youth, through the Elderly area, has maintained contact with the Pensioners and Retirees Associations of the municipality of Torre Pacheco, by phone, video call and WhatsApp, maintaining contact with both the presidents and presidents of the clubs, as well as with members of the Boards of Directors.In addition, and as reported by the councilor for Seniors, Verónica Martínez, from the council, contact is being maintained not only with the presidents and directors of the Senior Clubs of the Municipality, there is also regular contact with the elderly who participate in the activities programmed from the council, especially those who live alone are monitored, with the main objective of listening to them and informing them of existing resources.A situation that has contributed to our elders using social networks, and putting into practice the courses carried out by the council, Verónica Martínez has pointed out.Also from the senior program and through WhatsApp, the elderly of the municipality are kept informed of topics of interest at this time, and daily sessions of Geronto-gymnastics prepared by technicians from the Department of Sports are sent to them, with the aim that they can stay active, despite the circumstances.On the other hand, the councilor has reported that maintenance is being carried out at the Torre Pacheco Day Center, such as sanding and painting of doors, windows and railings.
In addition, the Torre Pacheco City Council is carrying out cleaning and disinfection of public roads and municipal buildings, among which are the senior centers, which are already being disinfected.
