| Prosecuted the Mayor and nine council members of the Torre Pacheco government team | The Provincial Court of Murcia has dismissed the appeal filed by the councilors of the Independent Party and PSOE who co-govern in Torre Pacheco and has confirmed their prosecution, so they will sit on the bench accused of an alleged crime of prevarication and against the law of political participation.From VOX we recall that the Independent Party and PSOE committed themselves in their government agreement (point 1.3 of that agreement) to remove from office any politician involved in corruption cases.Although VOX recognizes and respects the presumption of innocence of all the accused, we believe that the accused must resign from their positions to maintain consistency and responsibility with their own principles expressed in the aforementioned municipal government agreement and in their own ethical codes.Background:On June 6 we had breakfast with the news that the Mayor of our municipality, Antonio León, and nine councilors from his government team, including the current Councilor for Finance and 2nd Deputy Mayor, Carlos López, the current spokesperson for the Independent Municipal Group, Yolanda Castaño and the 4th Deputy Mayor and former spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, Juan Salvador Sánchez, among others, will be criminally tried for the alleged commission of a crime of prevarication and against the right to political participation.The mayor and his nine councilors are accused of failing to provide the opposition groups with the information and documentation necessary for the plenary session in which the 2016 budgets should be approved, as required by law.
By failing to comply with said legal mandate and taking a decision being aware of its illegality, since both the Secretary and the Auditor warned him of it in plenary, his conduct could be constituting prevarication and crime against the right of political participation.The good name of our municipality, in question:It is regrettable that Torre Pacheco is again news due to the involvement of its rulers in a case of political corruption.
Once again, the name of the municipal corporation and that of our municipality are questioned by the arrogance, arrogance and lack of height of view of the municipal government team.From VOX and the rest of the opposition groups we have been regretting the way of acting of the Mayor and his team, which at all times have tried to silence and hinder our work.On several occasions we have denounced that the reports necessary for the plenary debate were not in the file as of the date of the plenary meeting, nor at a later time.
That was the situation experienced in the last ordinary plenary session in May, in which an intervention report was missing.
Although a point of order was raised and it was indicated that this agreement could be void, the Mayor continued with the vote on the item on the agenda in question.Lack of respect for the opposition and the institutions:It is regrettable to hear the Mayor call us in plenary "slum", label our opposition work as "destructive" and accuse us of lying or, other councilmen of the government team, accuse us of being "heirs to Franco" and "fascists".
All while the municipal government is systematically breaching art.
23 of the Spanish Constitution regarding the right to political participation, by putting all possible obstacles so that the opposition cannot carry out its constitutionally recognized democratic mandate, compliance with the law is above any type of particular interest and politicians must be the first example of this.That is why classifying the action of Justice as "nonsense" and "tantrum" as the Mayor has done before the prosecution does nothing to give a clean and professional image of our City Council, nor to transmit due respect to the institutions of the State, in particular to Justice.
