The Department of the Elderly of the Torre Pacheco City Council, requested the General Directorate of Consumption and Crafts, the inscription in the Register of Artisans of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Segura Campoy and José Sánchez García as Honorary Craftsmen for their dedication and promotion of esparto crafts in senior centers, educational centers, exhibitions, artisan fairs and markets in Torre Pacheco and municipalities in our region.Last Monday, the Councilor for the Elderly, Verónica Martínez Marín gave Antonio Segura Campoy and José Sánchez García the official notification of the Autonomous Community at their home, it was a great surprise for them and full of emotion they expressed their gratitude.Since 2011, esparto workshops have been carried out in the Day Center, directed by Antonio Segura Campoy, a retired neighbor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio has dedicated his time to selflessly teaching dozens of pachequeros and residents of other towns.
With the aim of transmitting his knowledge and especially the love he feels for esparto crafts, something he learned from a shepherd when he was 7 years old.
One of his first students was José Sánchez García, a pachequero by birth, since he discovered esparto, he also lives in love with this craft, he has a unique ability and exemplary creativity.The Torre Pacheco City Council continues to work for the integration of the elderly in our municipality, valuing their knowledge, skills and their dedication to traditional and artisan work in our municipality.
