The director of Murciano Research Institute and Agricultural and Food Development (imide), Juana Mulero, yesterday visited the experimental farm of Torre Blanca, located in the municipality of Torre Pacheco, where research teams of this organism develop 34 of the 131 projects currently underway.
The farm has a total area of ​​13.72 hectares, of which 1.22 ha are high-tech greenhouses for R + D + i horticultural approximately 8.56 has woody crops (citrus, stone fruit , among others), aromatic plants and other industrial sources.
Juana Mulero said that the aim of this farm is to "contribute to the development of the agricultural sector through the exercise of research activity," adding that "R & D + i has received a major boost in recent years, both in scientific knowledge and technology transfer results. "
The director stressed that "the ensemble formed by the teams IMIDA and a site such as the experimental farm of Torre Blanca meets all the conditions for the results obtained in investigations are very conducive to be transferred to the sector without or additional processing step since running in real time and framework ".
Among the projects carried out IMIDA on this farm include those that measure the effects of environmental conditions, fertilizers, growth-regulating substances, among others, on the development and growth of plants.
There are also projects aimed at obtaining hybrids for the introduction of resistance to diseases, to obtaining plants by artificial means in vitro multiplication, to its reproduction by the cultivation of certain organs for cloning and fixing certain characteristics.
In addition, projects are aimed the study of plant diseases, pests, insecticide resistance and beneficial insects used for biological control of harmful;
improving technology fertilization and irrigation in horticultural crops and assessment of the impact on plants of different types of radiation generated by the materials of cover and shade nets, among others.
