Socialist deputies in the Assembly Regional Isabel Casalduero, Antonio Guillamón and Alfonso Martínez Baños Thursday visited the Regional Museum of Paleontology and Human Evolution (MUPEH) in Torre Pacheco, accompanied by the mayor, Antonio Leon, and councilors of the government team.
The museum, a mass of concrete five plants located between fields of greenhouses near the RM-19 motorway between Murcia and the Mar Menor, was awarded by the team of convicted former mayor Daniel García Madrid (PP), and is the result of a grant of 8 million euros granted by the regional government in 2006.
Work began in 2010, but they carry stops from 2013, before the problems in the building and lack of economic capacity of the City to mark the bursting of the housing bubble.
The lights and shadows of this work have been denounced by the current rulers, the opposition that forced the creation of a special commission monographic informative to investigate the causes of the stoppage, and demand political responsibilities to the irregularities found.
The new government team is now studying the feasibility of completing the works, and intended to be the Autonomous Community who assume the management of the museum, which requires large material and human resources.
The Socialist deputy Isabel Casalduero expressed his surprise at the magnitude of the building, and denounced the shortsighted Regional Government regarding the construction and launch of cultural centers.
"There was no reason to make a work of this magnitude," said Casalduero, "so little connected with the natural environment and unsustainable economically, regarding the use and frequency of visitors who intended to have the building."
"The management of the museum, the importance of the remains found both in the Sima de las Palomas and in other excavations in our region, can not rest in the city of Torre-Pacheco," said Casalduero, who pointed to the Ministry Culture as responsible for "ensuring that both the exhibition material as the paleontological archive of our region are held by research staff has sufficient material and financial means, always with the collaboration of our universities, research centers in Spain and Europe, and national authorities. "
According Casalduero, "the MUPEH is an example of the disastrous cultural management of the Popular Party, which now intends to look away instead of solving the problems."
The deputies announced that they will soon be taken to the Regional Assembly debate museum management for the government of Pedro Antonio Sanchez committed to the defense of historical, natural and cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia.
