This morning, the Councilor for Social Services, Verónica Martínez, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Participation, have opened the literacy course for seniors, which is held in the municipal public library of Torre-Pacheco, every Wednesday from 10.30 to 11.30 .
Literacy is a fundamental human right and forms the basis of lifelong learning.
Because of its capacity to transform people's lives, literacy is essential for human and social development.
Our Municipal Public Library together with the Department of Social Services and Equality carries out both through this Literacy Workshop and the Easy Reading Workshop for greater actions that support the educational process of all people, and encourages the habit of reading As an individual instrument of self-education and personal creativity.
"Combating social differences in access to information, facilitating access to culture and education, promoting citizen participation, and above all promoting multiculturalism, the exchange of ideas and freedom of thought among our elders" have been the Goals that Councilor Veronica Martinez wanted to highlight about the Literacy Course for the Elderly.
For her part, Professor Elena Paredes has pointed out that "It is a question of people who have not had the possibility of attending a permanent education during their childhood or youth, and for various reasons were forced to interrupt them, can now improve their Level of reading, writing, knowledge of the basic orthographic rules, punctuation marks, pauses, and all in a playful environment, among friends, and always respecting the level of departure of each of the workshop participants and their Own capacity for evolution ".
The Councilor, wanted to encourage all interested people to join in the next sessions to this workshop, which ends in June.
