Next Sunday, March 19, will be the nomination of Son of Torre-Pacheco, who was the founder and soul of the Ferro Flamenco Festival, Sebastián Escudero.
This is the first time that the Municipal Corporation of Torre-Pacheco City Council changes an official event of such magnitude, an expression of the utmost gratitude and recognition towards the person and the people of Roldán.
At the proposal of all the Municipal Political Groups to the Plenum of the Town Hall, the highest distinction of this City Council was approved, in the form of Title of Favorite Son of Torre-Pacheco, posthumously, in the Person of Don Sebastián Escudero Sanmartín , For the great cultural legacy that has left to the municipality of Torre-Pacheco, as founder and patron throughout its life, of the International Festival of Flamenco Cante of Lo Ferro and the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro, organizer of the same, Along with the Town Hall of Torre-Pacheco.
The appointment of Torre-Pacheco's favorite son is the highest distinction of this municipality, an award that rewards extraordinary special merits that come to personalities, entities or corporations, both national and foreign, for having rendered services to the municipality.
All this, undoubtedly, falls to the person of Sebastian Escudero.
This title is granted posthumously and coincides with the second anniversary of his death.
On March 19, 2015, a unique date for being a festival of San José, Father's Day, and a big day for the hamlet of Roldán and for his patron saint's feasts, Sebastián Escudero Sanmartín died at the age of 76, dear neighbor of this District and of the municipality;
For that reason the decision to realize this Act in his town, Roldán.
Sebastián Escudero, as a defender and faithful lover of flamenco, was the founder of the Flamenco Festival of Lo Ferro and the Peña Flamenca Melon de Oro de Lo Ferro, organizer of the contest, and of which was its honorific president.
For 37 years, Sebastián Escudero proposed to institutionalize flamenco in Lo Ferro with a Cante contest for amateurs and that, year after year, it has been growing and consolidating to the importance it has today;
A tireless worker who got the Lo Ferro Flamenco Festival to become the third Flamenco Festival of Spain Competition, declared of Regional Tourist Interest and awarded numerous national and international awards for its work of dissemination and promotion of flamenco art.
In addition, the Torre-Pacheco City Council has awarded the International Flamenco Song Festival of Lo Ferro, one of the highest recognitions in its Regulation of Honors and Distinctions: The Torre-Pacheco Gold Medal.
