The Councilor for Tourism and Local Development, Rosalía Rosique, accompanied by Ignacio Fiero, manager of Gealand and doctor of geology, presented this activity, which is held for the first time in Torre-Pacheco on Sunday, 7 May. Geological routes in the space of Cabezo Gordo, where specialists will explain the formation of the landscape and the elements that compose it.
The Geolodía, arose in 2005 in Teruel, being at the moment the most important national event of diffusion of the geology.
At the time, it was a local proposal and sought to bring society closer to geology and the work of geologists, the main objective that is still in force today.
Since then, the initiative has been strengthening and since 2011 Geolodía acquires a national character.
This year, Geolodía Murcia is celebrated in Torre-Pacheco and more concretely in the Cabezo Gordo and along two routes, one destined to more familiar public and another hiker, the rocks of Cabezo will be recognized, the history of millions of years that count , Geological structures, the importance of water and magnetic minerals, among other aspects.
All this in an itinerary with stops explained by about twenty professional geologists.
Cabezo Gordo Geolodía will allow to see the rocks with "eyes of geologists" and to understand with this, more about the history of our Earth.
Geolodía Cabezo Gordo is a free initiative, which requires registration and is organized by GeaLand and the Department of Tourism of the City of Torre-Pacheco.
It is also supported by the Geological Society of Spain, the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) and has the collaboration of the Cidaris Foundation, Asociación Cabezo Gordo, Áridos Cabezo Gordo, Cabezo Gordo SL and Juvenile Guarantee.
It is undoubtedly a festival of geology in which to know, sensitize and favor the conservation of the geological heritage.
