The Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, accompanied by Councilor for Finance, Carlos López, and the Accidental Secretary, Isidoro Jesús Martínez signed today the Agreement for the Resolution of the contract for the works of the Museum of Paleontology and Human Evolution, after a agreement with the "liquidators" of the company that at the time was awarded the work for more than 5,563,645 euros.
The agreement, endorsed by the Plenary on July 29, 2017, entails the payment of 317,679, 92 euros, and against the more than 750,000 euros claimed by the company, after assessing the costs incurred and the damages caused by the City Hall of Torre Pacheco that paralyzed the works in the year 2013, with the previous Municipal Corporation.
The City Council can now tackle the end of the works, with a new bidding process, but still waiting for the Government of the Autonomous Community to define its commitments to the management of the Regional Museum, and find a formula that does not entail greater expenditure for municipal coffers
The Torre Pacheco City Council received in 2006 a subsidy of 8 million euros from the Regional Government, of which 5.2 million euros have been spent so far, while the rest of the money (2.8 million) was used for current expenditure - payroll, invoices, etc. - under the principle of a single fund, and there is a Special Commission set up in 2015 to investigate the fate of these funds and the causes of the work stoppage.
