One more year, the Department of Social Services and Equality offers schools this activity of promoting healthy eating consisting of conducting a healthy breakfast day aimed at schoolchildren and their parents.
The conferences are being held in the educational centers of the municipality of Torre-Pacheco with a great acceptance among all the members of the educational community, especially of the children and their families.
Today, the councilor for Social Services and Equality, Veronica Martinez, the president of SODITOR, José Sánchez, and the coordinator of Social Services, María José Moreno, shared a Healthy Breakfast at the Hernández Ardieta de Roldán school, with the director of the center, José García, teachers, parents, mothers and students of the 1st year of Primary Education.
"Promote actions to promote health and prevent disease in our municipality, promoting healthy lifestyles and promoting all those factors that may be related to the occurrence of preventable diseases", is the goal of these days according to the Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Veronica Martinez.
Childhood obesity is associated with a higher probability of premature death and disability in adulthood.
Children who are overweight or obese are more likely to remain obese in adulthood and to develop noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease at younger ages.
It is intended that the objective of this activity is the internalization of the importance of a healthy diet, in which healthy and nutritious foods are introduced, which contribute to an adequate physical and intellectual development in children.
This program is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Diabetics of Torre-Pacheco, SODITOR through a collaboration agreement, between this Association and the City Council of Torre-Pacheco.
At first a breakfast is made and then the children continue their classes and families participate in a talk on healthy eating in childhood, given by a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, said the president of SODITOR, José Sánchez.
The Director of the School, José García, has valued this type of initiative, and thanked the City for the organization of this type of activities, being also a complement to the health plan that the center makes in the classrooms, appreciating and appreciating the great participation of parents and students in the day today.
