There are very few occasions in which the Sima de las Palomas opens its doors to show all its wealth from the hand of the archaeologists who work during the summer in the official Excavations Campaign of the Field School "Sima de las Palomas Gordo "of the Prehistory and Paleoanthropology of the Quaternary of the Region of Murcia.
El Cabezo Gordo is a protected landscape with great biotic, landscape, paleontological and cultural interest.
In this natural area of ​​the municipality of Torre-Pacheco is Sima de las Palomas, considered the second most important Paleontological site after Atapuerca.
On Sunday, February 25th, and all morning, those who approach Cabezo Gordo will be able to visit the Cueva del Agua, where they will see a large mining gallery, and a natural lake where water is filtered inside the mountain;
You can also enter the Sima de las Palomas, where you go back more than 50,000 years, to discover our origins and learn more about the Homo Neanderthalensis;
In addition, in the visit to the Interpretation Center, in the Cave of the Foot of the Giant, videos will be projected that explain the different theories about the disappearance of the Homo Neandethalensis and if it really went extinct.
Next Sunday, the 25th Open Doors Day "Sima de las Palomas" is held, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a free activity, which requires prior registration.
