Campaign Reading Promotion is a contest for municipalities with fewer than 50,000 to reward the best projects and activities developed dynamic reading in their libraries, with the aim of promoting reading among all social groups, especially among children and youth, who form the basis of future adult readers.
Is done through the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and, since 2002, with the cooperation of the Coca-Cola Foundation Juan Manuel Sainz de Vicuna.
In this new edition has reduced the number of laureates to 300 libraries are composed of 200 lots bibliographic children's books selected from the developments of each year.
The titles are intended as a sample of the field of creative writing and illustration today.
And, since 2002, the three best projects will also receive cash prizes funded by Coca-Cola Foundation.
This action encourages small towns and combine efforts to promote reading in places where there is usually very difficult to access to books.
This program presents a great strategic importance, as approximately half of the Spanish population resides in municipalities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, with which this initiative has great impact on the area.
In recent editions, the response of the municipalities has been very positive, so far submitted more than 9,000 projects for more than 2,000 municipalities.
Winning activities in campaigns to encourage reading since 1998 are contained in the Census of activities to promote reading.
The objective is to disseminate census activities in Spain by public and private institutions contribute their experiences in the field of reading promotion, and help all those interested in promoting such activities.
