On March 11, 2011, the Municipal Social Welfare Services for the Hall of Torre-Pacheco, in collaboration with the Association of Rural Women in the region of Murcia, held the Eleventh Conference of Women in Rural Areas .
This Day, a biannual basis, brings together women of Torre-Pacheco and the Mar Menor region to discuss the role of women in rural development.
The purpose of this activity, framed in the events to mark the International Women's Day is to analyze the increasing involvement of rural women in society, in the field of local politics, in partnership, in the new fields of employment, diversification efforts in agricultural activity, the role of agriculture, associative networks and, ultimately, is betting on new system of rural development, where women participate actively and independently.
Women play a key role in rural economy, which goes beyond linked to economic activity (agricultural or otherwise), and involved, often to a greater extent than men in family life, and the of its population centers, must reconcile family and professional life.
The equal opportunities policies have become a priority, given the importance in this process of revitalization of the environment, so that rural women have equal job opportunities, political and cultural.
The intervention strategy focuses on solving the problems faced by women in rural areas:
- Increased participation of women in decision-making.
- The promotion of a greater presence in the associative network, increasing its participation in the life of the people.
- Recognition of the women, who do their work as family support, making 'visible' the tasks they perform.
- The promotion of new business activities that are being implemented in rural areas, contributing to their diversification (rural tourism, crafts, creation of companies related to the products obtained from agriculture and natural resources and environment).
- The creation of services to help reconcile work and family life (childcare, schools, day centers for seniors, improving infrastructure and transport ...)".
Focus on employment initiatives targeted at women can have a real positive impact on female labor market, rural women often know how to identify resources and local needs that can become potential markets.
Finally, it is important to emphasize the importance of information, vocational guidance, vocational training, training for staff development, information technologies and communication technologies (ICTs), support for self-employment and entrepreneurship by the rural women.
If you want to promote integrated rural development, it must be played by all the people living in our cities, that is, must be conceived, developed and implemented by women and men on equal terms.
Our experience tells us that they are carriers of interesting proposals and scarce resources to what they have told have been compensating with enthusiasm, dedication, effort ... and even optimism in times of weakness but, above all, generosity, knowledge, professionalism and rigor.
