The Field School has provided in recent years a unique opportunity for the international youth and staff, enthusiastic in finding the roots of Neanderthals in the contexts of scientific practice in the Sima de las Palomas Cabezo Gordo , a major site of Neanderthal Man (Homo neanderthalensis) and Palaeolithic Mousterian industry of approximately 50,000 years ago.
This site occupies a prominent place on the map of human evolution in Europe.
