About 800 elderly in the municipality of Torre Pacheco gathered today to celebrate the Day of the pensioner in this location, with a coexistence that has served to close the various sports, cultural, entertainment and games that have been held during the month of March.
The Association of Pensioners and Retirees 'Virgen del Rosario' has been responsible for organizing the celebration of this day, which began with a Mass and continued with a fellowship meal, attended by the CEO of the Murcia Institute Seniors Social Action, Enrique Perez Abellan.
Perez stressed the participation of members of the association, which has more than 1,600 enrolled in the activities scheduled throughout the year to encourage and promote active and healthy aging.
He also indicated that "senior centers are not just places for leisure and free time who have finished their working life, they are forums for education and lifelong learning."
In this regard, he added that "serve mainly to project knowledge to the younger because, despite living difficult times and not have all the resources that we would like to think that these centers serve a social function we promote. "
