Presented "ARGOS" educational program for the prevention of problems related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages (15/01/2016)

Argos an educational program for the prevention of problems related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages in which collaborate Secondary Schools, Health Centres and Hall of Torre Pacheco.

It is aimed at teenagers 1 ESO (12-13 years).

The intervention program for adolescents in this age range is justified both by the vulnerability of children in this age group, such as the high prevalence of alcohol consumption of our youth;

Start whose age stands at 13.8 years, according to the latest published poll.

The program involves the development of three teaching units: The first and third are held at school and the second revolves around the student groups visit to an exhibition of posters displayed in the Health Reference Center each school.

(The posters will be exposed in the press room).

Upon completion of the three teaching units students can participate in the competition "ALCOHOL: AWARENESS WITH SCIENCE", in which you choose a prize of a technological product to one student from each Secondary School participating by filling in a questionnaire which is accessed through the portal www.e-drogas.es, the Ministry of Health.

The program objectives are:

• To help students reflect on the different socially established views about the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

• raise awareness of the risks associated with their consumption, such as driving, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, the effects on the body especially women, and to identify peer pressure situations related to alcohol .

This program has been running since 2013 and in the 2014-2015 school year 603 students received 6 schools in the municipality.

It is planned to involve all secondary schools with an impact of approximately more than 600 students.

From City of Torre Pacheco is seen as one of the priorities, delaying the age of first alcohol and other drugs of adolescents and raise awareness about the risks of alcohol abuse in adulthood also.

Drugs with an average age of first use earlier remain the snuff, alcohol and cannabis in this order.

In Murcia population 15 to 64 years, 4,000 people have a possible dependency and about 36,500 men and 8,500 women respond to hazardous drinking alcohol (measured through the questionnaire AUDIT for diagnosing problems related to alcohol) .

As for the municipality of Torre-Pacheco, last month data tell us that 1,200 minors drink alcohol, and 400 which are drunk.

These data tell us that we must work closely in the prevention, from the health, education and social field.

Trends in consumption of alcoholic drinks of adults in the last 10 years are stabilized but consumption levels are still very high, which is a public health problem and justifies such interventions.

All these data show without doubt that alcohol is the most consumed drug and therefore it is essential intervention in adolescents due to the high prevalence and consumption style that is taking place: the youth consumption takes place especially on weekends, in public spaces, where drunkenness is intentionally looking for fun, aggravated by a social tolerance and low risk perception that its use entails.
