Cerda said during his speech that the Melon de Torre Pacheco is a gourmet product par excellence "and said it" has become the best ambassador of the Campo de Cartagena. "
Noted in this regard will soon "have their own names" with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), which covers Piel de Sapo varieties, Yellow, Galia and Cantaloupe, and will, he said, "the promotion and joint supply."

Melon de Torre Pacheco is characterized by its sweetness, juiciness and flavor, and a stiffer pulp that allows once harvested, manage to maintain these qualities for a longer time.

Melon production
The Region of Murcia intended 5,657 hectares to the cultivation of melons, and has an output of 223,000 tons.
Torre Pacheco 679 hectares dedicated specifically to the melon, with a production of 25,120 tonnes.
The production area to be covered extends to the Cartagena area and surrounding parishes as Avileses, Bath & Pauper, Corvera, Gea and Truyols, Lobosillo, Los Martínez del Puerto, Valladolises and Sucina.
As explained by the Minister of Murcia, Melon Fair "is a consolidated event" and has a varied program of activities that will begin next Friday with the celebration of the First Conference Technical Melon, who will address issues related to the melon field Cartagena as a world, as well as genetic improvement, marketing and consumption trends.
On Saturday there will be the reading of the proclamation by the Minister of Agriculture and Water, and delivery of the 2008 Golden Melon to the farmer José Pérez and Kernel Export Company.
