This morning the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Daniel García Madrid, and the managing director of ONCE in Cartagena, José Antonio Sánchez Rodríguez, presented in the Plenary Hall of the City Council the completion of the refurbishment of the District of Santiago de Torre Pacheco, thanks to the collaboration agreement signed between the IMSERSO (Institute of Aging and Social Services, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs), ONCE Foundation and the municipality of Torre Pacheco on October 26, 2007.
With this ambitious project is to complete redevelopment and regeneration of the urban fabric of this neighborhood, including actions to improve accessibility and increase the minimum width accessible, uniform paving of sidewalks, construction of fords at pedestrian crossings, elimination of specific barriers in the pedestrian route, the introduction of reserve parking spaces for disabled and single-platform training on some streets for pedestrian.
The total budget of 125,000 euros has been, of which 87,500 euros ERDF contribution, IMSERSO 15,000 euros, 8,750 euros ONCE Foundation and the municipality of Torre Pacheco 13,750 euros.
"The City Council has not only designed for people with mobility problems, but also in the general community: the elderly, mothers with prams, ladies that come with shopping cart that allows them to move more easily," says Mayor Torre-Pacheco.
The City of Torre-Pacheco not only wants to help improve the accessibility or the physical part of works, but also at the institutional, social and awareness to people of the great work done by the ONCE foundation, which is much more important than any work.
This foundation will always have the willingness and desire to continue working with them as much as improving the quality of life of citizens, and eliminating barriers that make society are the words addressed to Daniel García Madrid José Antonio Sánchez Rodríguez started by the Consistory all the social work done by the municipality.
